Lingua Gustatio: What to eat in ALOR SETAR? 亚罗士打寻吃记

If you head northwest, 90km away from Penang, you would arrive at the capital of Kedah namely Alor Setar. Now, I'm gonna intro the best local bites that you could ever find!

北上九十公里，抵达了槟城的邻州 - 吉打亚罗士打，目的就是要寻找美食啦～

1. Yong Tau Foo @ Lor San 庐山茶室 酿豆腐

There is a variety of self selected Yong Tau Foo with stuffed fish, minced meat and pork organs. The most unique pick is the stuffed cauliflower which tastes really awesome. Besides, Hakka noodle topped with minced meat is the best match with the Yong Tau Foo. The soup originally was good but because we added the pork kidney, so it had this foul smell which affected the soup. Overall, the Yong Tau Foo is undoubtedly tasty. The price depends on your own options which is around RM8-12.
这里的酿豆腐有很多种选择，从酿鱼肉，酿秋葵，还有很多猪的内脏。话说那汤底是很鲜甜的，但我们不小心选了猪腰肢，汤底变很腥。。。不过如果你是喜欢那味儿，你就应该加多点啦。哈哈。另外他们还有一样特别的，就是酿白菜花。通常一碗酿豆腐会搭上一盘客家面，里头还有姜葱碎肉，很好吃。价钱方面，就视乎看你那什么咯。

Revisit? Maybe, but I won't be ordering that stenchy pork kidney definitely.

2. 1 Happiness Restaurant @ Jalan Pintu Sepuluh

Guai Leng Gou/ Herbal Jelly 龟苓膏 RM6

Love the scent of the herbs and it was not that bitter luckily. You could add some honey to neutralize the bitterness. 

还以为会很苦，没想到味道刚刚好，另外可以自己加蜂蜜调味。

Herbal Tea 二十四味凉茶

This herbal tea is quite bitter in the first sip but gradually, you could taste the different scent of herbs later on. 

这相较之下就有些苦，不过苦中带甘，里头的不同草药味道接踵而来。果然是二十四味。哈哈

Sago Desserts 西米露

Hello desserts lover, you must not miss this! The crystal-like sago balls in coconut milk are just chewy and tasty! 

我本身很爱甜品，尤其是有西米和椰奶，真是一级棒！

Mango Pudding 芒果布丁

The plus point of this dessert is it wasn't that sweet as I expected. The mango pieces embedded in the pudding are pretty less but still you could taste the light mango flavour.

微甜的芒果粒和QQ的布丁，很香又好吃。

Hakka Noodle 客家面

It was just so-so to me and pretty oily actually. However, the portion was pretty big to me with lots of minced meats and vege. 老实说，我认为有点太油了，味道普通。不过分量和料都很多，有肉碎和蔬菜，是不错啦。

Roti Kahwin 结婚面包（哈哈）

Basically a simple sandwich with butter and kaya, Malaysian style mah! 

传统的面包配上奶油和椰酱，是不是有家乡的味道呢？

Crispy Noodle 伊面

It was pretty good cuz I love the vinegar scent in the soup, besides you would feel so full after eating this as there were plenty of vege and meats and my fav century egg (I know it's unhealthy item but hey YOLO! Just don't consume it frequently. haha) 个人认为，这是最好吃的。因为第一，醋味很重（对，我爱吃醋 =P）再来，料又很多，有我爱吃的皮蛋。虽说皮蛋不是很健康。。。偶尔一吃不要紧吧。哈哈

Singapore Bihun 星洲米粉

Though it looks rather dry, the bihun actually is saturated with the salted fish. The portion is big either, enough for a big eater like me. hahaha 细细的米粉看起来干干的，不过却有咸鱼的香味。不错噢！

Revisit? Yup, it's a nice place for chitchatting/ hangout and most importantly it's air-conditioned. 


3. Indian Food @ Jalan Limbong Kapal

Anneh! Unna meal! Oh gosh, I miss the days in India so dearly...Used to eat meals almost everyday and still love it despite looking guiltily at the weighing scale after eating.  So, this is claimed to be one of the best Indian cuisines by the local people. Well, it is located at one of the housing area without any prominent signboard, you would need to ask the locals for the exact location. 

说到印度餐，我就眼睛一亮啦。因为以前在印度念书，天天都吃他们的食物，现在真的是回味无穷啊。这印度餐是位于一个小小的住宅区里，可能需要问当地人怎么去。

Taste: 7.5/ 10 (Authentic Indian food but sadly the fish was kinda overcooked, mutton should be better but fast-selling) 味道正中，可惜鱼肉有点硬，他们说羊肉很好吃不过很快就卖光了。
Price: 6.5/ 10 (RM8 for this. Quite reasonable for a Penangite though I expected it to be slightly cheaper since this is Alor Setar.. haha)

4. Roti Naan @ Jalan Dato' Kumbar

Teh Halia/ Ginger Tea 姜茶

Surprisingly, the ginger taste was pretty light as some people are not used to the heavy spice of ginger. You would feel your stomach getting warmer if you gulp the drink instantly. *instant effects!* 

虽然我对浓浓的姜味有恐惧，不过这姜茶就只有微辣，还有喝了马上肚子变保暖。

Here comes the super star Cheese Naan that looks ordinary & plain. *No, don't judge a naan by its cover*

星级餐点来啦～～就是这芝士面包。虽然看起来很普通。。。

Slowly tearing the naan off, seeing the cheese flowing out of it just stimulated my salivary glands! Hahahaha 

最爱的就是这时刻！撕开了面包，厚厚的芝士就慢慢流了出来，连我的口水也流了出来。。Oops.

How could you eat a naan without its star partner, Tandoori chicken?! The juicy tender chicken leg matching with the naan would make your day happier! lol

最佳拍档就是这特味烤鸡，肉质很滑，外皮很脆，跟我在印度吃的没两样。

Garlic naan 

Oh well, this was rather too plain in comparison as cheese naan had stolen the limelight of the night.

相较之下，这大蒜面包就比较逊色了。哈哈

5. Curry Mee @ Jalan Pekan Cina 咖喱面/ 卤面

Rumbling stomach in midnight? No worries, you can always look for supper at Jalan Pekan Cina. This famous Curry Mee/ Loh Mee only starts operating at 10.30PM till the dawn. 三更半夜肚子咕噜咕噜叫，可以来到这儿尝一尝咖喱面吧。晚上十点半营业到隔天凌晨。

The price depends on your own choice. We picked the meat balls, potatoes and their signature You Char Kuey/ Deep fried Chinese cruller 价钱就依旧你自己所点的配料。我们选了肉丸，马铃薯还有招牌油炸鬼。

Sweetening Air tebu/ Sugarcane 甘蔗水

Ta-daaaa. After a long wait, here comes the foooooooood! This was RM8 with a big chunk of chicken piece. The taste was good but personally I think it could be spicier. Honestly, I don't really like eating supper (typical girls' worries) but yeah, this is worth a try! Mind the queue, it might be lengthy. 

等了大约三十分钟，食物终于呈上了。每一碗面里都有一大块鸡肉，汤汁很香，可惜不够辣，或许下次我会要求加多一点辣椒。哈哈。其实我是不吃宵夜的，不过这是值得一试的。
